Here’s a short story about Ned, or maybe it’s Nicole, or even Joe…………. Anyway, back to Ned.
One-day Ned wakes up feeling disillusioned with his business. He’s good at his work and gets very positive feedback from clients, but he keeps missing out on some top tenders or contracts around town. Ned decides he needs some extra training, and in particular, to add a few qualifications to his LinkedIn profile. Like many people, Ned goes out and takes a shot gun approach to his development and signs up for a range of courses related to his industry in general.
12 months later…………. Ned has finished his courses but still isn’t landing the contracts he wants. Why you ask??
The answer is simple. Business development, training and planning go hand in hand. Ned should sit down and consider exactly where he wants his business to be. i.e. what market niche to occupy or contracts he specifically wants. After focusing on the most desired position for his business, Ned needs to speak with a professional business consultant such as Anthony Ferro from Present Professionally and list out the key skills, competencies or experience he and his staff (if applicable) need to be able to expertly deliver those products or services.
Once Ned has identified those key skills, he needs to carefully select training courses that actually give him or his staff those skills and competencies. Your business won’t be helped by stacking your LinkedIn profile or Resume for that matter with qualifications that don’t provide you with the skills you and your business needs to succeed.
Plan carefully and strategically and you will drive your business to the next level.
