Is it the presentation or the taste?
It’s fair to say that we’ve all found ourselves at one time sitting in front of a magnificent example of cake making and salivating as we eagerly await the ceremonial carve up. The colour, the smell and the presentation has sold us on this piece of culinary excellence. Then the host cuts it up and with some luck the taste doesn’t disappoint.
If we sit back and reflect on it and accept that I’m not crazy, we can see how the concept applies to business.
Small business owners need to focus on the presentation of their business, AND the feeling customers get when engaging with them. In truly successful businesses it’s not one or other but both are equally important.
Presentation is all about the visual appeal of the office or store. Things like the presentation of the staff, their clothing and demeanour are important. Add to that the quality and reliability of the products being sold and a picture as to the presentation of the business starts to emerge.
Moving on to the ‘taste’, or should we say the experience. The experience is all about how customers feel when engaging with the business. Do they experience great service and value for money? Do they get quality products and exceptional service delivery? Now here’s an important one….Do they feel valued as a customer?
Just like the cake, it isn't about how good it looks, but the taste is just as important.
