Capability Statements - A 'Ho Hum' title for a critical business document.

Are you a small business owner or manager?  Yes, you say.  Do you want more business?  Stupid question, you say!

There isn’t a small business operator in Australia who doesn’t want more business, or possibly dreams about landing that big contract.  So, why do so many business owners ignore or neglect having a professionally prepared and engaging Capability Statement?
Capability Statements are powerful documents that support your business.  Preferably in a visually appealing format, they document the competencies (what you are good at and services offered), achievements (success stories), associations (affiliations across industry) and accreditations (licences and memberships) of the business.  They will also outline the basic structure of the business and key ownership/contact information.  

The Capability Statement is essentially a snap shot of your business and what makes it tick, and where your strengths lay.  As a colleague said to me so succinctly, it’s useful in showing that you are a ‘fair dinkum’ business before others engage you or purchase from you.  
 
Now, this is the important part……………today, right now, more and more businesses are asking for Capability Statements before the will do business with you.  In many industries/sectors it is almost mandatory.  Businesses tendering or quoting to government, or the mining, resources, construction and heavy industry sectors need to submit the document with their tender or quote.

Don’t start crying………..at this point, most small business owners usually give up.  They are great at what they do, but the thought of writing about it and bringing it together in a document of roughly 2-3 pages is daunting.
